However, no amount of experience can prepare you for the moment when the mid-engined Zuffenhausen machine delivers a lap time that allows it to leave a near-supercar such as the Mercedes-AMG GT behind.

This is precisely what happens in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which sees the mid-engined Porscha flying from one vibrator to another. The action takes place in France, on the Magny-Cours Club track, with Motorsport Magazine being responsible for the feat.

And if there's a good occasion for labeling the otherwise brilliant BMW M2 as "collateral damage", this would have to be it.

Porsche sportscars have always been more about the balance than anything else, which is the top asset on a technical course such as the one we have here. However, there's another reason for which the 718 is so fast.

It all has to do with the mid-cycle revamp of the mid-engined Porsche marking its switch to turbocharging. After all, complaining about the inevitable turbo lag and the lesser voice of the boosted model we have here is much more difficult when the sportscar delivers such stunning levels of performance.

However, we can't end this piece without mentioning that the Mercedes-AMG GT will have its mid-cycle update (yes, the cycles are getting shorter nowadays) next year, with the "base" model listed here possibly being "replaced" by the current S model, which, in turn, would be "followed" by the Mercedes-AMG GT C. While the open-top Mercedes-AMG GT C made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show. As for the fixed-roof incarnation of the GT C, we showed you a Nurburgring spy video of the speed demon yesterday.
